Art Talks with Elizabeth Huey

Interview via THE WILD, September 19, 2014

Where are you from: Virginia

Where you live now: Brooklyn (Huey currently lives in LA)

What you do: I’m a painter. I also take photos and collect old snapshots which seem to have a direct and indirect influence. Lately, the work is becoming more sculptural.

What was your first experience with art?

Melting crayons between sheets of wax paper and holding it up to the light.

What is there too much and too little of?

I wish mind reading was an accepted and reliable form of communication — less talk, more telepathy.

What influences you?

Social dynamics, psychology, architecture, windows, biomorphism.

If you were another person / place / or thing what would it be?

Pierre and Marie Curie in love – exploring magnetism, naturally fluorescent rocks, and together discovering radioactivity.

What are you obsessed with?

Double exposures and roller coasters, the unconscious. Mirrors and screens.

What are you currently working on?

A sculptural painting of the aura of a 13th Century nun. Below is an image of the piece in progress.

What is your WILD wish?

A month at the Hermitage in Russia followed by a few days at the pools in Pamukkale, Turkey.
